The Delight of Feet in Flight
I was looking at an image, in my home, which is a large scale poster someone gifted me of a couple in the air. They’re flying over Monte-Carlo, blue skies and the wind under their feet. This image sits at the top my stairs, greets me every morning as I head to the loo or down to the ground floor. Where I’ve placed it reminds me of an oil painting that sat at the top of the stairs in my grandparents home. There are images that stay with you all your life, and this is on for me. It’s an older painting from the late 19th century, an idyllic springtime image, of a man and a woman in a lush garden, siting embraced on a swing.
I was thinking of relationships and how things function and transition... and the idea of being in mid-air came to mind. Your feet are in flight and it's a surprise what comes next, as you glide through the air and delight in movement, forwards and backwards.
These two interconnected images went with me to the studio, where I decided to do a response for the thoughts and memories of the day. It’s a small expression of a swing in mid-air (doing it’s thing, with delight).
